Art has become a way of life. Since the early years in high school I have been fascinated by all forms of art, taking any classes available through independent established artists and museum classes. Living in New York City, there was no shortage of inspiration. Figure drawing, photography, clay sculpture, ceramics, pottery, charcoal portraiture, oil painting. I took any class I could fit into my busy schedule especially in the summers. I frequented the Metropolitan Museum of Art where I noticed young artists sketching the masters so I followed suite. The City was a smorgasborg and I was a voracious learner. We were a great pair!
Then I went to school in New England where I found inspiring mentors, Mel Stabin and Frank Webb for watercolors(Coastal Maine Workshops, Rockland,Maine), Ken Kewley for acrylics/mixed media(Castle Hill, Truro, Ma). On a trip to MOMA (Museum of Modern Art)in NYC, I enjoyed the Degas monotype series and was inspired to explore it. Recently, I discovered Snow Farm art workshops in Williamsburg , Ma where I dabbled in monotype printing with artist, Joyce Silverstone using Akua paints which are water soluble oils. I continued this trend studying this medium in many other settings. On a trip to Provence I purchased a set of powdered paints which you can mix with either water or oil for different effects. I am currently experimenting with these colors.
In general, I am an eternal student fascinated by a plethora of art media and using them to express beauty that moves me. Hopefully this passion will be enjoyed by others in the viewing as well. I continue to learn and hone technical skills while finding delight in those "happy accidents" that are sometimes unexplainable, just like life!
